AI SEO Tools: Which Kind You Need for Each SEO Job

Copix · · 7 min read

An AI SEO tool uses a language model somewhere in the SEO job: to suggest keywords, write or score a draft, audit a page, or check whether AI answers cite you. The best one for you depends on the job you’re stuck on, because no tool does all five well. Pick by job. A research suite finds keyword ideas and backlinks. A content scorer or a draft check helps the writing. An auditor finds technical problems, and a visibility check tells you who AI answers cite.

Lists of the best AI SEO tools often rank 20 products side by side as if they did the same thing. They don’t, and buying the wrong kind is how you end up paying for a keyword database when your real problem is that your posts don’t answer the question.

What kinds of AI SEO tools are there?

Five, by the job they do:

Kind The job Good at Falls short on
Research suites Keyword ideas, difficulty, backlinks, rank tracking, competitor traffic Finding what to write and watching rankings over time Telling you whether your page is good
AI article writers Drafting posts from a keyword Speed: a full draft in minutes Voice, facts and anything the model doesn’t know about your business
Content scorers Comparing your draft’s terms and headings with the pages that rank Spotting a topic the top pages cover and you don’t Pushing every post toward the same shape as the results
Site auditors Crawling for technical problems Broken links, redirects, duplicate titles, indexing blocks Judging the content itself
AI visibility checks Asking AI assistants your queries and reading who they cite Showing whether ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity name you Ranking: AI answers change from one ask to the next

A sixth kind sits across these: tools that plug into the AI you already chat with, through MCP, so the research, writing and checking happen in one conversation instead of five tabs.

Which AI SEO tool should you start with?

Start with the job that’s failing.

  • You don’t know what to write. You need queries with real search volume. A research suite gives you ideas at scale; if you already have a list, a volume lookup measures it. The keyword search volume guide covers the free and paid ways.
  • You publish and nothing ranks. Check the pages before you write more. Usually the post doesn’t answer its query in the first lines, two posts compete for the same query, or Google isn’t indexing it. A website SEO checker finds the technical side; the keyword cannibalization guide finds the competing posts.
  • Your drafts read like AI. A faster writer won’t fix that. You need a review pass that flags the tells. The guide to making AI writing sound human lists them.
  • You want to show up in AI answers. Ask the AIs. A visibility check shows who they cite for your query today. The generative engine optimization guide covers what moves it.

If you need keyword ideas, difficulty scores, backlink data or daily rank tracking, a full research suite is the right buy. Nothing else in this list does those jobs.

Do AI SEO tools hurt your rankings?

The tools don’t. What they help you publish can. Google’s position is that it ranks content on whether it’s helpful, not on how it was made, and the posts that get demoted are the thin ones written at volume for queries, with no first-hand facts. The is AI content bad for SEO guide goes through what gets pages demoted.

The risk with AI writers is the default: a post that says what every other result says, in the same order. The risk with content scorers is the same, from the other side: chase their score and your post converges on the ten already ranking.

What does an AI SEO workflow look like inside your own AI?

If you already write in Claude or ChatGPT, the shortest workflow keeps everything in that chat:

  1. Pick the query. Rank your candidate queries for fit, intent and overlap with what you’ve already published, then measure their search volume.
  2. Get the structure. A direct answer first, question headings, a table, an FAQ, links to your own pages. The blog post structure guide has the template.
  3. Write with your facts. Your offer, your buyer, your proof, not the model’s guesses.
  4. Review the draft. Claims without proof, AI tells, missing steps, the exact line to change.
  5. Check it against the query before it goes live, then audit the live page.

That’s what Copix does. It’s an MCP server that works inside Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and Claude Code: your AI writes, and Copix gives it the method and checks the result.

What does Copix do as an AI SEO tool?

On Copix Basic ($9 a month), write gives your AI the structure for a blog post and review checks every draft, unlimited. You stop pasting a long prompt before each post, and every draft comes back with the exact lines to fix. Your saved brief means each post starts from your offer and your facts instead of the model’s guesses.

Copix Complete ($29 a month or $290 a year) adds the engines, run on credits, each one asking before it spends:

  • SEO Engine: grow up to 5 seed topics into keyword ideas with volume, competition and CPC (25 credits); turn them into a content plan, one post per search intent with its primary keyword, secondaries and a format, and the intents your existing titles already cover marked for a refresh (30); see the keywords a competitor ranks for (10) or a sample of its backlinks (10); rank up to 12 candidate queries for fit and overlap (2 credits); measure monthly Google search volume, trend, competition and CPC for up to 100 queries in 29 countries (50 credits, and a repeat within 30 days is free); check a draft against its query (2); audit a live page with its AI-citation readiness (3); crawl 25 or 100 pages (10 or 30).
  • GEO Engine: ask ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity a query with web search on and see who they cite (60), or find the AI answers that already cite your domain (75).
  • Conversion Engine and Ads Engine for landing pages and Meta ads.

What it isn’t: a full research suite. It doesn’t score keyword difficulty, track rankings or count every backlink, and it never invents a volume it didn’t measure.

Complete comes with 1,500 credits every month, rolling over up to three months. Your first plan starts with a 14-day free trial: card at checkout, nothing charged for 14 days, then the plan’s price unless you cancel from your account.

FAQ

What is the best AI SEO tool for a small business?

The one that fixes your current bottleneck. If you have no content yet, a way to pick queries and a writing method. If you have content that doesn’t rank, an audit. A full suite is worth its price once you’re tracking dozens of keywords.

Can ChatGPT do SEO on its own?

It can draft posts, titles and descriptions. It can’t see search volume, crawl your site or know what Google indexed unless a tool gives it that data, and it will guess numbers if you ask for them.

Are free AI SEO tools any good?

Google Search Console and PageSpeed Insights are free and essential. Free tiers of paid tools are fine for a look; they usually cap the queries or pages you can check.

Do I still need an SEO suite if I use Copix?

You do if you need difficulty scores, full backlink counts or daily rank tracking. Copix covers keyword ideas, a content plan from them, a look at a competitor’s keywords, measuring volume, writing, reviewing and auditing.

Will AI SEO tools get me cited in ChatGPT?

No tool can promise that. What you can do is make pages easy to cite and measure the result by asking the AIs, which is what a visibility check does.

Make your AI write like a copywriter.
